Mini Has Gone Big

Image
I have been a Mini fan since 5 years ago. When Mini debuted the Mini Clubman and recent Mini Countryman, I wondered why? After studied marketing, I understand more about Mini’s product line and their intention. It’s all about fun driving experience and promoting Minis to all kinds of young people, or old people who have young spirits. Mini Cooper What happens in the Clubman Mini Countryman Commercial: Flow

Facebook to Launch Free Email Service?

Image
The news article grabbed my attention when I was surfing on the Internet yesterday. This is still a rumor, we have to wait until Monday to see if it’s true. Many people are saying that Facebook’s email service will be a Gmail killer. I disagree; even Facebook has more than 500 million members. I believe it really depends on how Facebook integrate with its core service and other services. I would prefer using Gmail because I can use Google Doc, Youtube, Translate, Chrome, and more services under Google. MacBook Air

Image
This post is referring to Jun Ming Ou’s post on October 29, 2010. Link: http://blogs.ubc.ca/junmingo/2010/10/29/24/#respond First of all, I want to point out a few mistakes that Jun Min has made. - The new MacBook Air 11”/13” have 2 USB ports (standard), not just one. - MacBook Air is not the thinnest notebook. Mitsubishi Pedion is the thinnest notebook ever. It was released in 1998! As we all know, Apple has launched many innovative products and services such as iPod/iPhone, iTunes, and MacBook Air. The first generation MacBook Air was released back in 2008, and it went through its product life cycle in a fairly fast pace. In here, I have different opinion than Jun Min. In my opinion, I think the previous generation MacBook Air was not a successful model, and Apple only occupy a relatively small market share in thin and light weight laptop market comparing to Sony, IBM, Dell, and Fujitsu. It had to do with its high price (around US $1500), short battery life, only 1 ...

Postpurchse Dissonance

I consider myself as a Apple fan, I have a 15” MacBook Pro, and an iPhone. Most of my friends are using Apple products too. However, before the term started, I bought a 11.6” Acer laptop for school use. I did not do a lot of research on purchasing it. Simply, I went to a computer trade show and searched for a light weight, thin laptop that’s easy for me to carry around. Since most of the brands I know doe not offer 12” laptops, I decided to buy the Acer Aspire One 753. I considered it is one of the good cost-benefit purchases I recently made. This morning, when I was packing up for school, I saw a message shown on the screen, “ No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key.” I thought it was just a random error that Windows occurs, so I shut it down and rushed to school. When I arrived to school and tried to turn it on again, it showed the same message again. My laptop is dead! It’s just two-month old. I can’t believe it. I have done everything I can to rescue my laptop, but ...

Google Chrome Broswer & Chrome OS

Reply to Derek Li’s Creativity FTW!!! Link: http://blogs.ubc.ca/derekli/2010/10/20/creativity-ftw/ I have always keep three different types of browser installed in my Mac and PC: Chrome, Safari, and Firefox, but I use Google Chrome the most. A few days ago, I saw Derek had a post about Google Chrome. Actually, I’ve never seen the video clip he posted before, and I was amazed how creative the video has been created and how simple Google Chrome is. In fact, Google Chrome has changed my experience of browsing the Internet. Google Chrome, Japan Now, Google Chrome even expand their concept from Chrome into a whole new OS - Google Chrome OS, Which is simply a cloud computing technology. I thought this would be interesting because it seems convenient for people who have multiple computers or switch their their laptops from one place to another. From the video below, you can see no matter where you are, you can get your presets from the Internet once you log into your account. Google Chrome OS

Cross-industry Cooperation

Image
I don’t know since when, I have seen so many cross-industry cooperation cases going on. Most of them are successful (is it true?). The only thing I can think of these phenomenon is increasing market share. Our world is becoming “flat” due to our high technological development and the Internet. I believe marketers are trying hard to think a way to drive up their sales. I am not sure about whether there is any potential disadvantage or threat behind, but I’m wondering if they can lose some customers (sales) from a cross-industry cooperation?
